Grocery Manufacturers Association Leadership Forum

President Bush
September 9--The Greenbriar, White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia--The annual Grocery Manufacturers Association Leadership Forum brings together the nation's leading food companies and associated industries to network, learn and celebrate.  There are many seminars that are vital to the growth and efficiency of the food industry.  If the average consumer would listen to any of the sessions, they would soon realize the intricacies of how food gets from farm to table.  Two keynote speakers discussed leadership styles and management anecdotes.  President George Bush and retired NBA Commissioner David Stern, provided insightful talks about their respective jobs.

Lots of photos made on a stage, you need to stay alert for interesting expressions, provide the client with different angles because they have many uses for images from each situation.  Although, award presentation photos might seem routine, there are many things to coordinate.  Tell the presenter where to stand (an X is placed on the floor), make sure they take their name badges off, button the jacket, hold the award so it doesn't reflect the light, hold the position to get more than one shot, (someone always closes their eyes), and the technical aspects: the stage light and flash need to be balanced, be in position to get the photos all in front of hundreds of people, be quick because we must be on time. And you thought, photography was easy!!

Photo Notes:  GMA does an outstanding job to properly brand the stage of their events.  In almost every angle I can make photographs of speakers on stage, a distinctive GMA identification can be included.

To get your message/brand seen, a well designed stage can accomplish your goal. The signage is bold but not distracting, the background colors are bright but not overwhelming, and there is enough light on the subject for a good exposure.

(Tech notes: All images shot in available light, as provided by the hotel. This year we worked with the Broadmoor to add some spot lights. Thus the illumination was better in several of the rooms. However, it still is amazing to me how my digital cameras can get a good exposure along with processing each file in Photoshop. This workflow provides quality images for all types of publishing usage.)
